I stood there transfixed and made a quiet vow to myself, that one day I too would try to create a picture that gave an element of surprise once the viewer was up close.
So...... after lots of blood, sweat and real tears (not to mention the bad language and numerous failures in the bin) here I am, many years later with not just one, but a collection of 20+ pictures that I am very excited to share.
I do hope you like them.

Living in rural Leicestershire, I am very much a country girl at heart, hence all of these pictures being countryside related. Roaming fields and footpaths in search of inspiration is of no hardship to me and of course the dog is very happy with this arrangement too! Sometimes it's the things I see or find on these walks that spark new creative ideas.
So far in my pictures, I have used beech leaves, oak leaves, different breeds of sheep wool, wheat straw, meadow hay, wood wool, reindeer moss and reed grass.
These elements not only give the main block of colour to the pictures but also provide the interesting textures too,

EXCITING NEWS!!
The lovely people at the March House Farm Shop (no relation to The March Hare as it happens) in Great Dalby near
Melton Mowbray, have very kindly
agreed to display and sell a range
of The March Hare pictures.
Call in if you are in the area, they are a brilliant farm shop stocking a wide range of high quality produce.
The Small sized pictures are 12cm x 12cm x 3.3cm. Their size alone gives them a very a cute look, never mind the actual subject matter. They can stand alone quite securely on a table, shelf or windowsill. Alternatively, they come with an integrated hook so look really good when hung on a wall too. Please be advised that the natural products contained within may possibly fade over time.
A hedgehog with real attitude - not one to mess with!
Made using reindeer moss.
A lovely little sleeping kitten, cuteness overload indeed.
Made using sheep's wool.
A very fine frog showing off his greenery.
Made using reindeer moss.
Sadly no handbags for this pair of little groovers to dance around.
Made using wood wool.
A harvest mouse is such a cute little creature, I just love the way they use their long tails to stop themselves from falling.
Made using beech leaves and wheat straw.
My favourite British bird, they really are so small, yet perfectly formed.
Made using oak leaves, Herdwick wool and meadow hay.
My work room overlooks a sheep field, a huge distraction in spring time with all those little lambs getting up to their funny antics.
Made using reindeer moss.
Sadly red squirrels are rarely seen in most of Britain nowadays but it's a huge delight when they are spotted.
Made using beech leaves.
The Medium sized pictures are 20cm x 20cm x 3.3cm. They have quite a chunky look about them and are stable enough to stand alone on a shelf, table or windowsill. Alternatively, they have an integral hook so could easily be hung on a wall to really show them off. Please be advised that the natural products contained within may possibly fade over time.
I love sheep, even though they do put in such an extreme effort at either getting out, or getting themselves caught up in hedges, wire or gates. This is a mighty fine specimen indeed.
Made using reindeer moss.
This fox does have that proverbial cunning look about him. Also, his piercing stare really does make you feel as if he is looking right through you.
Made using beech leaves.
Many years ago, any self respecting farmyard would contain geese, but they are not so often seen nowadays. Maybe that's not such a bad thing as I have vivid childhood memories of being chased by them!
Made using sheep's wool.
The British brown hare needs those long legs to keep one leap ahead of their natural predator, the fox. A hare can achieve amazing speeds of up to 50 mph!
Made using reindeer moss.
Traditionally a pack hound, this one is looking a little lost on her own.
Made using sheep's wool and beech leaves.
I've known a few Jack Russell's over the years and without exception they have all been very independant characters...... but still adorable.
Made using sheep's wool and beech leaves.
Cockerels generally have quite a bossy nature and this one is no exception, hence him being a high ranking officer.
Made using reindeer moss.
The Large sized pictures are 33cm x 24cm x 2.7cm. (standard A4 frame size). They are a little more refined than the smaller picture sizes, which really allows the focus to be on the actual design itself. They come with a kick back stand so they can be displayed freestanding on a table, shelf or windowsill. Alternatively, they have an integral hook so that they can be hung on a wall and admired by all. Please be advised that the natural products contained within may possibly fade over time.
Pheasants are a common sight around where I live. This one in particular is really strutting his stuff.
Made using beech leaves.
It's a wonderful (if not slightly ghostly) sight to see a barn owl hunting for his supper at dusk. They can have a wingspan of up to a metre.
Made using reed grass.
I'm very fascinated with hares, particularly their sometimes bizzare behaviour in the spring. This picture has a very special place in my heart - it was the first design in my head that actually became a real thing held in my hand. It truly was a "Eureka!!" moment.
Made using reindeer moss.
A classic picture of a cocky cockerel. He's such a poser.
Made using reindeer moss.
Named after a favourite chestnut pony who looked similar to this, although maybe he was a little rounder! He was quite a character and liked to help himself to our picnics.
Made using beech leaves.
Stags always have a superior and regal look about them and this one is no exception
Made using beech leaves.
A lot of shooting takes place in the fields around me and so to reflect this, I felt tempted to create a 'composition' rather than my usual single animal or bird study.
Made using beech leaves, oak leaves and meadow hay.
Named after a dapple grey pony that I knew many years ago and a very friendly little soul he was too.
Made using recycled sheep's wool
Designed to both reflect and champion the farmers of our nation who go above and beyond the call of duty to put quality food on our tables. They often don't get paid well for what they do and they're out in all weathers, all year round. I for one, am very proud to support British farming!!
Made using wheat straw.
